Atomic Wings, the New York-based restaurant chain the specializes in Buffalo wings, says it’s targeting the Detroit area for expansion into Michigan with a potential 15 locations over the next five years.
According to Michael Harmon, vice president of development at Atomic Wings, Michigan stands out as a “high-priority market” because of its population size and anticipates the state can host up to 30 new locations and opportunities for entrepreneurs to open the concept’s first locations in the state.
The franchise reports growth and momentum nationally in 2024. In July, Atomic Wings opened new locations in Pine Bluff, Ark., Champaign, Ill., and Sioux Falls, S.D.
These openings set the stage for a series of launches throughout the remainder of 2024, including new restaurants in Virginia Beach, Va. and Fairview Heights, Ill. in November, and the Bronx in New York in December.
By the end of the year, Atomic Wings says it plans to double its size, reaching 30 restaurants by Jan. 1, 2025. This growth trajectory is set to continue with the aim of operating 60 locations in 2025 and 120 by 2026.
Now, the franchise is looking for representatives in Wisconsin and Michigan. These two territories, the company says, are the final pieces to selling out the Midwest, which has been a focus of the brand given the existing support system and operational efficiencies already in place with current locations in the region.
Atomic Wings was created in 1989 with a mission to share authentic New York-style Buffalo wings with the world. The brand is led by owners and brothers Zak and Ray Omar, and offers customers fresh, never-frozen, natural and hormone-free chicken wings hand-tossed in 14 proprietary sauces, a classic menu, a welcoming dining experience, and a commitment to quality.
