Warren-based Art Van Furniture acquired full ownership of World of Floors in Sterling Heights today and plans to relocate its headquarters next to Art Van’s corporate campus on 14 Mile Road, west of Van Dyke.

“We have big plans for Art Van World of Floors, and I personally look forward to making it the No. 1 flooring business in the markets we serve,” says Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture.

Under terms of the deal, Art Van Furniture acquired the 50 percent balance of the interest previously held by Emil Pedick, founder, president, and CEO of World of Floors. Pedick founded the company in 1997 and built it up to 27 locations, mostly located inside various Art Van stores. Two locations are freestanding.

“My vision with Art Van World of Floors was to create a store-within-a-store concept that leverages the marketing and customer base of a successful retail furniture operation,” Pedick says. “We accomplished that.”

David Hendler will lead corporate and non-sales-related efforts at World of Floors, while Jim Hadjantoni will be responsible for in-store and shop at home sales activities.

Art Van Furniture operates 37 stores in Michigan, six in Chicago, one in Toledo, a full service e-commerce website, and 40 freestanding Art Van PureSleep bedding stores in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
