SIGU Capital, a private equity firm in Royal Oak specializing in strategic investments, has acquired Art Knitting Mills in Farmington Hills, in partnership with Jesse Fenton as a strategic advisor and Sami Cekaj, the company’s operator and COO. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1930, Art Knitting Mills is an embroidery company that produces high school varsity jackets, varsity sweaters, and other customized team sports apparel.

A symbol of achievement and school spirit for generations of students, Art Knitting Mills reports the demand for authentic, American-made varsity jackets continues to grow, with schools, teams, and retailers seeking high-quality, customizable options.

Under the new combined leadership, the company is set to modernize operations while preserving the hand-guided chain stitching craftsmanship that has defined its legacy.

“For generations, Art Knitting Mills has been synonymous with quality and tradition,” says Nathan Guinane, co-founder and CEO of SIGU Capital. “We see an incredible opportunity to honor this heritage while implementing efficiencies to drive growth.”

Cekaj emphasized the importance of keeping the brand’s craftsmanship alive. One attribute of the company’s outreach is visiting individual schools to review apparel options, pricing, and other details that parents and students can review at home.

“Art Knitting Mills has a deep-rooted tradition of excellence, and we are committed to maintaining that while evolving to meet today’s market demands,” says Cekaj. “With this new partnership, we’re in a strong position to expand and continue delivering the highest quality varsity jackets and letter sweaters.”

Fenton brings deep industry experience and a strong network, further strengthening Art Knitting Mills’ growth strategy. Together, Cekaj, Fenton, and SIGU Capital are focused on enhancing production capabilities, expanding partnerships, and ensuring the brand’s legacy thrives for future generations.

Art Knitting Mills offers an extensive inventory, special-order capabilities, and on-site sewing equipment. The company offers a range of customization options, including chenille letters, numbers, names, class, activity patches, and the ability to hand embroider a personal message or a design.
