Ann Arbor Plastic Packing Manufacturer Amcor Acquires Plastic Bottle Producer

Ann Arbor-based Amcor Rigid Plastics USA LLC, a manufacturer of plastic packaging for the food and health care industries, has acquired Eco-Groupe Inc., a manufacturer of plastic bottles. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“This acquisition will continue our growth strategy and commitment to the packaging industry,” says Mike Schmitt, president of Amcor Rigid Plastics. “Eco-Groupe’s technologies will strengthen our innovation focus and expand our offerings to customers.”

Dayton, Ohio-based Eco-Groupe’s technology portfolio includes a modular molding system, which allows for so-called multiple size preforms to be injected simultaneously, along with a mobile manufacturing system. Eco-Groupe has four manufacturing sites across the nation and about 175 employees.

Amcor Rigid Plastics, which has 6,000 employees, also purchased a minority equity interest in EnKon LLC, a woman-owned business affiliate of Eco-Groupe.

Amcor Rigid Plastics manufactures plastic packaging for the spirits, personal care, and home care industries and has 58 facilities in 12 countries. The company is a subsidiary of Melbourne, Australia-based Amcor Limited, which has about 30,000 employees working in 40 countries. Amcor Limited saw sales of $10 billion in 2014.
