A 10-story, 194-room ground-up hotel development is being planned for a space adjacent to Michigan State University in downtown East Lansing. It will be called Graduate East Lansing and will be part of the Graduate Hotels collection by Chicago’s Adventurous Journeys (AJ) Capital Partners.

Construction is slated to begin in spring 2019 and be complete in fall 2020. Its location is set for Grand River Avenue at Evergreen Avenue, within walking distance from the MSU Union and Spartan Stadium.

“We are thrilled to join the vibrant and growing downtown core of East Lansing and expect the Graduate East Lansing hotel to provide an amenity that is unique to the city and university,” says Eric Hassberger, COO of AJ Capital Partners. “As an MSU alum, I’m particularly excited to be a part of delivering a much-deserved hospitality experience to this great community and to watch students, alumni, and locals utilize our cafe, communal space, and rooftop bar that will boast incredible views of campus.”

The guestroom designs will be unique to Graduate East Lansing and will include elements inspired by the local community, MSU, and Michigan history. The lobby will offer a space to socialize, relax, and study, and the hotel will include more than 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The ground floor will offer retail space for lease.

Graduate Hotels are in university-anchored cities across the country. There are 13 open across the U.S. and 12 under development that are slated to open by 2020.
