Troy’s Shield’s Restaurant and Pizzeria, located at 1476 W. Maple Road, has added a new partner and is slated for a complete interior and exterior remodel. The restaurant will close following business hours on Mother’s Day, May 13, for construction. Costing approximately $1 million including architect and general contractor fees, the remodeled restaurant is expected re-open on Aug. 1.

The restaurant’s new partner, Hassan Haj, brings extensive café and restaurant experience from Chicago. Ron Rea of Ron and Roman in Birmingham is the architect for the project, and Christos Karatsikakis is general contractor.

The remodel is to include a new bar and bar area, new dining room, banquet room, the removal of the stage area, new bathrooms, reconfigured seating areas, and an expanded carry-out area with a merchandising cooler, larger counter, and more. Using glass and featuring cargo doors in the front, the façade of the building will be completely redone. Additionally, the parking lot is to be repaired, sealed, and striped, and a new sign will be added. Lighting will be improved throughout.

Previously known as Smith Brothers, the restaurant was purchased by Paul and Peter Andoni during the summer of 1991 from Nicholas Smith, and re-opened in January 1992. Several cosmetic improvements have been made to the building since that time.

“After 26 years, it’s time to create a fresh, open look,” says Paul Andoni. “Our last day open will be Mother’s Day, May 13. That night we will have an employee party after closing as a thank you. The remodel will start Monday, May 14. Our goal is to remain a vibrant local, family-owned, community-oriented business for years to come, as we have been since 1992.”
