Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge, a pop-up car festival featuring flashlight drag races where drivers can race each other in their own cars on a custom-built track, is coming to the Pontiac Silverdome on Aug. 12.

“This gear head festival with grudge racing is a first at the Silverdome and first for the Woodward Dream Cruise week,” says David Freiburger, host of Roadkill, a racing show on YouTube. “With all the action, the band, and the giveaways, this will be one to remember.”

The 1/8th of a mile track in the Silverdome’s parking lot will offer 200 drivers the opportunity to race their own vehicles or vehicles provided by Dodge on a closed course. Freiburger, the former editor in chief of Hot Rod magazine, will lead the races. The event will also include live music, food trucks, and rides in Dodge vehicles with a pro-driver.

The event is a precursor to the Woodward Dream Cruise. Freiburger and Mike Finnegan, the hosts of Roadkill, will be at the cruise on Aug. 15 before embarking on a weeklong road trip to Texas.

Roadkill Nights is free to attend, but pre-registration is required. Tech inspections will be held from noon to 4 p.m., and the vent will run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The car show is limited to the first 150 vehicles, with 50 spaces reserved for Dodge models.
