Rochester Hills-based metal stamping service company 3-Dimensional Services Group is expanding one of its affiliated companies, Urgent Design and Manufacturing in Lapeer. The expansion and related equipment will result in an eventual investment approaching $10 million.

The 100,000-square-foot facility, located at 3142 John Conley Dr., will include a 65,000-square-foot addition that will provide for greater flexibility of its fabricating and machining footprint. The expansion of Urgent Design and Manufacturing will include the addition of more than 30 employees.

“This expansion is pivotal to boost our company’s capabilities to fabricate a broad spectrum of components and assemblies, and to provide our customers with access to the best and latest technologies,” says Douglas Peterson, founder and CEO of 3-Dimensional Services Group.

A new feature of the facility will be an area called the Design Studio, which will be used as a full service, quick response advanced product development source for design assist, validation, and manufacturing support.

“Some might see this as a risky move in an uncertain economy, but we’ve been able to grow our company organically by pairing risk with opportunity, and so far it has proven to be a boon for our customers,” says Keith Chene, CFO of 3-Dimensional Services Group. “The last two years have given us the confidence that this expansion is just one more strategic step toward future success.”

Three-Dimensional Services Group has three branches in Michigan: Urgent Design and Manufacturing, Urgent Plastic Services, and Michigan Integrated Technologies, as well as a branch in Europe. The group designs, engineers, and builds functional prototype and low-to-medium volume production parts. Some of its specialties include computer numeric control machining, laser cutting and welding, plastic injection molding, and hydroforming.
