2016 model-year Subaru-brand vehicles have the best resale value according to an annual report by Kelley Blue Book. Toyota and General Motors each had five vehicles winning best resale value awards.
"…After previously winning the brand award in 2011 and 2015, Subaru is back on top once again for 2016 as the best mainstream brand for resale value across its entire lineup," says Eric Ibara, director of residual values for Kelley Blue Book. "While both Subaru and Lexus deliver incredible resale value, we also continue to be impressed with General Motors, which tops domestic automakers…”
Ibara says Lexus earned honors as the best luxury brand for resale value for the fifth year in a row.
He says in the sports car segment, the Chevrolet Camaro LT has the best resale value, while in the compact SUV/crossover segment, the Jeep Wrangler had the best resale value. The Lexus GS won in the luxury car segment and the Chevrolet Tahoe won in the full-size SUV segment.
The top 10-resale value cars in alphabetical order are:
1. Chevrolet Camaro
2. Chevrolet Colorado
3. GMC Canyon
4. GMC Sierra
5. Jeep Wrangler
6. Subaru Forester
7. Subaru WRX
8. Toyota 4Runner
9. Toyota Tacoma
10. Toyota Tundra
Ibara says an average 2016 model-year vehicle will retain about 35 percent of its original value after a five-year ownership period.
