The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, set to arrive in U.S. and Canadian dealerships this summer, made its world debut today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

“Adding to the excitement of the 4C Coupe, our all new 2015 4C Spider expands the brand’s product offering and continues our mission of building great Alfa Romeos,” says Reid Bigland, head of Alfa Romeo North America. “With a removable carbon fiber hard top, the 4C Spider takes the Coupe’s supercar level of performance and technology and ‘opens it up,’ allowing the driver to experience the incredible 4C from an entirely different perspective.”

Manufactured in Modena, Italy, the 4C Spider is a return to “the great Alfa Romeos” that raced in the 1930s and 1940s, Bigland says.

The supercar continues this tradition with an all-aluminum 1750 cc turbocharged direct injection, dual intercooler four-cylinder engine, delivering 237 horsepower. Torque delivery is instantaneous, with a peak of 258 pound-feet.

Just under 240 pounds, the Formula 1-inspired carbon fiber monocoque chassis delivers a material performance that is three times stronger and seven times lighter than steel. The front- and rear-chassis structures, as well as the engine-mounting frame, are made from lightweight aluminum.

Using the Alfa DNA selector system, drivers can select among four different driving dynamics, including all-weather, designed to ensure maximum control in adverse weather conditions; natural, which enables grand touring comfort and smooth drivability; dynamic, enabling improved driving performance via a more aggressive powertrain calibration; and race, which puts the driver in total control of the car.
