2015 Detroit Heart Ball

The American Heart Association hosted its annual Detroit Heart Ball on June 5 at Eastern Market's Shed 3. The event raised money for cardiovascular research in southeastern Michigan, and included farm-to-table cuisine, entertainment, and an auction.

The Detroit Zoo's Cotton Family Wolf Wilderness Opening

The Detroit Zoo opened its Cotton Family Wolf Wilderness, a 2-acre naturalistic habitat that features hills and meadows, native Michigan trees, a stream and pond, and dens on June 8. The habitat is the new home to two gray wolves: a 7-year-old female, Waziyata; and a 5-year-old male, Kaskapahtew.

An Evening of Red, White, and Blue: A Celebration of Heroes

The Grosse Pointe War Memorial hosted an "Evening of Red, White, and Blue: A Celebration of Heroes" at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial on May 20. The evening was part of a week-long series in recognition of all men and women who have served and are serving in the United States Armed Forces. The event included pre-concert cocktails, a private performance by a world-class artist, and dinner. Event proceeds supported the Grosse Pointe War Memorial’s Patriot Fund, which provides scholarships to veterans and supports high impactful organizations focused on patriotism, as well as honoring and serving Veteran causes.

Bloomfield Hills Financial’s Fourth Annual Stock-to-Scholarship Challenge

Bloomfield Hills Financial, a financial advisory firm, awarded the winner of its Stock-to-Scholarship challenge, in which students manage an online brokerage account, a $5,000 college scholarship on May 27. This year, Rida Khatib, a senior at Dearborn High School, won the three-month challenge. More than 500 high school students from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties high schools competed.

2015 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix returned to Belle Isle from May 29-31. Sebastien Bourdais won his first IndyCar victory of the season in a No. 26 Honda. The event featured the cars of the Verizon IndyCar Series, the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, and the Pirelli World Challenge Series, as well as the trucks of the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road.

2015 Beyond Basics Annual Ladies Luncheon

The nonprofit Beyond Basics, which operates several literacy, writing, and arts programs with Detroit Public Schools, held its annual fundraiser on March 27 at the Detroit Golf Club. The event, which drew more than 250 people, recognized student achievements and dedicated donors.

2015 Movement Festival Opening Party

The Detroit Institute of Music Education in downtown Detroit hosted the Movement Electronic Festival opening party on May 22. The Movement Electronic Festival featured more than 100 artists throughout Memorial Day weekend at downtown Detroit's Hart Plaza.

NEXTWork's One-Year Anniversary Party

NEXTWork, an organization that provides young Jewish professionals with resources and networking opportunities, celebrated its one-year anniversary at Sabrage in Royal Oak on May 13. Guests enjoyed drinks and appetizers.

2015 Bayview Yacht Club Preview Luncheon

Detroit's Bayview Yacht Club hosted a press event on May 21 to share changes to the 2015 Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac Race. The event included announcements made by 2015 Commodore Hanson Bratton, Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp, and Race Chair Peter Wenzler. To celebrate the yacht club's 100th anniversary, signature drinks and a lunch was served.

Leadership Oakland's 25th Anniversary Homecoming Gala

Leadership Oakland, a nonprofit that works to develop peoples' leadership skills, hosted a homecoming gala for its 25th anniversary at the Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak on April 30. The event offered live music by "Reggie and Friends," signature drinks, and food stations.
