2015 Bayview Yacht Club Preview Luncheon

Detroit's Bayview Yacht Club hosted a press event on May 21 to share changes to the 2015 Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac Race. The event included announcements made by 2015 Commodore Hanson Bratton, Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp, and Race Chair Peter Wenzler. To celebrate the yacht club's 100th anniversary, signature drinks and a lunch was served.

Leadership Oakland's 25th Anniversary Homecoming Gala

Leadership Oakland, a nonprofit that works to develop peoples' leadership skills, hosted a homecoming gala for its 25th anniversary at the Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak on April 30. The event offered live music by "Reggie and Friends," signature drinks, and food stations.

2015 Champions of the New Economy

For the sixth year in a row, the Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan, in partnership with DBusiness Magazine and News/Talk 760 WJR, honored the Champions of the New Economy — six regional executives who are driving growth in highly competitive industries — at the Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan's offices in downtown Detroit on May 6. A strolling dinner was provided by Opus One.

Reception for Governor General of Canada at the Detroit Institute of Arts

Highlighting the importance of enhanced cooperation between the United States and Canada, the Governor General of Canada David Johnston spoke at the Detroit Institute of Arts on April 29. He discussed the collaboration between public and private sectors that prevented the DIA's collection from being sold during Detroit's bankruptcy proceedings, as well as the role played by the DIA in championing the importance of the arts. Governor General Johnston was appointed to the position by Queen Elizabeth II in 2010 and serves as the queen’s representative in Canada.

Models of Influence at Scott Shuptrine Interiors 2015

Scott Shuptrine Interiors in Royal Oak held a fashion and art event on April 30 that featured photographer Nigel Barker, of "America's Next Top Model" fame. Barker signed his "New York Times" best-selling book, "Models of Influence" — the inspiration for the event. The book focuses on 50 of fashion’s most influential women. The event also included a fashion show by Katerina Bocci and Tapper’s, and a live painting demonstration by artist Tony Roko.

2015 Women of Achievement and Courage Celebration

The Michigan Women's Foundation held a dinner at the MGM Grand in downtown Detroit on April 28 to celebrate the careers and community service efforts of Southeastern Michigan women. The Michigan Women's Foundation works to eliminate barriers for women and girls by creating programs to develop leadership skills and offering a microloan fund for women entrepreneurs.

2015 Detroit Jazz Festival Preview Luncheon

A preview luncheon was held at the Detroit Athletic Club for the Detroit Jazz Festival to announce the lineup. Performers will include James "Blood" Ulmer & the Black Music Experience featuring Queen Esther, Steve Turre and Detroit saxophonist James Carter, Arturo Sandoval, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, and Danilo Perez, among others. Pat Metheny, the Jazz Festival's artist in residence, performed.

Packard Building #22 Media Preview

Detroit-based Display Group held a media preview of their renovations to Packard Building #22, along I-94 on Detroit’s east side, on April 23. The event specialist company is spending $750,000 to renovate the warehouse into an event space, offices, and showroom.

Gleaner’s 22nd Annual Women’s Power Breakfast

Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan held a women's power breakfast at its Detroit headquarters on April 22. About 650 women in metro Detroit's business and civic communities attended the event. Event proceeds went to raising money for meals for children.

Automotive Industry Breakfast 2015

The Dawda Mann Law Firm in Bloomfield Hills hosted its seventh annual Automotive Breakfast on April 21 at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit. Guest speakers were Joseph Hinrichs, executive vice president and president of the Americas for Ford Motor Co. and Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel. The event was held in conjunction with the SAE World Congress to bring together clients and colleagues in the automotive industry.
