Michigan Governor Rick Snyder hosted a gala on Friday, Sept. 7 at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn to honor a select group of new Americans in Michigan for their philanthropic and economic contributions. The gala was planned by the Michigan Office for New Americans, the Hispanic Latino Commission of Michigan, the Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs, and the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission.

The members of the 1968 Detroit Tigers team were honored with a private luncheon on Friday, Sept. 7 at Motor City Casino Hotel as part of the 1968 World Champions 50th Anniversary Weekend. About 500 guests enjoyed lunch and a Q&A with 13 members of the 1968 team. The lunch was sponsored by Comerica Bank.

On Sept. 5, the Rugiero family hosted a grand opening celebration of their newest restaurant, Antonio’s Piccolo Ristorante at 31735 Plymouth Rd. in Livonia. In addition to a champagne toast, a blessing, and a reception, donations were made to the Rugiero Promise Foundation.

The March of Dimes held its 38th ITC Golf Classic on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at the Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion. Guests enjoyed breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner, and live and silent auctions.

On Aug. 30, 10 semi-finalists in the 2018 Comerica Hatch Detroit Contest, presented by Bedrock, gathered at The Madison to compete for $50,000 from Comerica and more than $200,000 in pro bono support from Hatch Detroit and its partners. The winner was Toma Detroit, a Latin America-inspired tequila bar and restaurant slated to open next year in Corktown.

The 39th Annual Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation’s Opening Night VIP Party took place Friday, Aug. 31 at The Qube. More than 400 people attended and enjoyed hors d’oevres, a strolling dinner, and performances by Dr. Valade’s Brass Band, Terri Lyne Carrington and Esperanza Spalding, and the Chick Corea Akoustic Band.

The Detroit Chinese Business Association hosted its 23rd Annual International Golf Open on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the R&S Sharf Golf Course at Oakland University in Rochester Hills. Guests enjoyed lunch, a cocktail reception, and a dinner banquet. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Michigan Asian Youth Enrichment Foundation.

The Capuchin Soup Kitchen hosted its 25th anniversary Benefit on the Bay fundraiser on Friday, Aug. 24 at MacRay Harbor in Harrison Township. Guests enjoyed appetizers, dinner, beer, wine, live music, dancing, and silent and live auctions.

DBusiness magazine hosted its Powered By Women Breakfast Series on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the Gem Theatre in downtown Detroit. More than 270 guests enjoyed a strolling breakfast, networking, business exhibits, and a panel discussion by the Powered by Women honorees.

The Champion/Buhl Sport Detroit Partnership Launch Party took place on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at The Factory at Corktown. Guests enjoyed cocktails, light hors d’oeuvres, and a presentation in celebration of Buhl’s partnership in Americas Rallycross and the opening of Buhl Sport’s headquarters.
