2018 Role Model Dinner

Alternatives For Girls hosted its 2018 Role Model Dinner on March 28 at Cobo Center. The evening featured a reception, silent and live auctions, and dinner. Role Model Awards were presented to Alicia Boler Davis, executive vice president of global manufacturing at General Motors Co.; Deborah LaBelle, partner at the Law Offices of Deborah LaBelle; and Monica Martinez, senior vice president of external affairs, Michigan, and national director of Hispanic business development at Comerica Bank. Rhonda Walker of WDIV-Local 4 News was the emcee. Alternatives For Girls helps homeless and high-risk girls and young women.

Entrepreneurs’ Organization Detroit Chapter 2018 Retreat at Detroit’s Gem Theatre

More than 150 people attended the second Entrepreneurs' Organization Detroit Chapter retreat on March 7 at the Gem Theatre in Detroit. The theme was Exponential Growth. Peter Diamandis, founder and executive chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation, a company that designs and operates large-scale incentive competitions, was the headlining speaker. Mike Maddock, founder of Maddock Douglas, and Ari Meisel, who fought through Crohn's disease to run his real estate business, were supporting speakers.

2018 Chinese New Year Gala

The Detroit Chinese Business Association in Troy hosted its 2018 Chinese New Year Gala on March 10 at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn. The formal event, which drew more than 400 business and community leaders, included remarks from Gov. Rick Snyder, Consul General Hong Lei, and Chairman DCBA Advisory Board Jason Luo.

The Medallion: Macomb's Gala Event 2018 was held March 3 at Penna's of Sterling. Guests dressed up for a black-tie evening of food, live music, and a raffle. Proceeds benefitted Henry Ford Macomb Hospital's Surgical Center expansion.

Detroit Go Red For Women Luncheon 2018 at Detroit’s Cobo Center

On Feb. 16, red-clad attendees learned how to prevent heart disease and stroke, which cause one in three deaths among women each year. Survivor Nicole Curtis of HGTV and DIY Network's Rehab Addict spoke during lunch, and a VIP afterglow, presented by McLaren Macomb, offered cocktails and a meet and greet with Curtis. The event also featured a health expo, silent auction, vendor exhibits, breakout sessions, health screenings, and networking.

Beyond Basics 2018 Literacy Summit in Detroit

More than 200 civic leaders and students attended the Beyond Basics 2018 Literacy Summit on March 1 at Mumford Academy and Mumford High School in Detroit. During the summit, Beyond Basics and The Foundation for Global Literacy announced a partnership that allows Beyond Basics to assess the reading levels of nearly 3,000 Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corp (JROTC) students and provide tutoring if needed.

German American Chambers of Commerce Winter Networking Event

On Feb. 13, the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, Michigan Chapter held its Winter Networking Event at Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in Farmington Hills. More than 100 guests enjoyed a cocktail reception, cuisine, live entertainment, and a strolling art show.

DPTV ‘RALPH’ Premiere at the Garden Theatre in Detroit

On Jan. 25, more than 200 guests attended the premiere of "RALPH," a DPTV documentary focused on the life and legacy of Detroit native, lifelong resident, and Buffalo Bills owner and philanthropist, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr., at the Garden Theatre in Detroit.

Detroit Yacht Club Officers Ball 2018

On Jan. 27, more than 350 people attended the Officers Ball at the Detroit Yacht Club. The DYC Annual Officers Ball is the longest-running formal event in the City of Detroit (142nd this year), and is the first major event of the Club's 150th Anniversary. Attendees enjoyed a plated, sitdown dinner, a cocktail reception, and live entertainment.

Salvation Army Sing-a-Long 2017

The Salvation Army, a nationwide non-profit dedicated to serving the poor, hosted the annual Sing Along at the London Chop House in Detroit on Dec. 7. Guests enjoyed lunch and sang Christmas carols to support the Salvation Army's Red Kettle fundraising campaign.
