More than 150 people attended the Coalition on Temporary Shelter's 17th annual Soup City event on Jan. 21 at the Gem Theatre in downtown Detroit. The event featured soups from restaurants in the area, along with entertainment by the Jerry Ross Band and Les Williams.
More than 400 people attended Strategic Staffing Solutions holiday party at the Detroit Athletic Club on Dec. 17, which included a strolling dinner, cocktails, food stations, and live entertainment. Guests were asked to bring a children's book that will be donated to charities.

Guests enjoyed a strolling breakfast and a presentation on company culture by keynote speaker and former 30 in Their Thirties honoree, Linzie Venegas, vice president of Ideal Group in southwest Detroit.
The Michigan State Fair held its annual VIP reception and charity preview at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi on Sept. 3 ahead of the State Fair. The invite-only event offered special access to local children who are undergoing treatment at Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Cornerstone Schools, which educates nearly 2,500 Detroit students in one independent and four charter schools, held a golf invitational featuring 23 LPGA golfers, joined by local business and community leaders, at the Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms on Aug. 31. Cornerstone Schools officials announced plans to create a youth golf program in partnership with The First Tee of Greater Detroit, a youth development organization.
The Grosse Pointe War Memorial hosted an "Evening of Red, White, and Blue: A Celebration of Heroes" at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial on May 20. The evening was part of a week-long series in recognition of all men and women who have served and are serving in the United States Armed Forces. The event included pre-concert cocktails, a private performance by a world-class artist, and dinner. Event proceeds supported the Grosse Pointe War Memorial’s Patriot Fund, which provides scholarships to veterans and supports high impactful organizations focused on patriotism, as well as honoring and serving Veteran causes.
For the sixth year in a row, the Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan, in partnership with DBusiness Magazine and News/Talk 760 WJR, honored the Champions of the New Economy — six regional executives who are driving growth in highly competitive industries — at the Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan's offices in downtown Detroit on May 6. A strolling dinner was provided by Opus One.
