The GM Renaissance Center has announced the launch of On the Plaza, a new summer program featuring 17 weeks of entertainment, activities, food trucks, and more on the GM Plaza along the Detroit River, just outside the Wintergarden.

“(On the Plaza) is a part of our ongoing efforts to really make the GM Ren Cen an exciting place to work and visit,” says Kate Hopper, marketing manager with CBRE at the GM Renaissance Center.

Hopper says CBRE, a commercial real estate company and investment manager, has worked closely with GM to rebrand the RenCen, hoping to better connect with the city.

Weekly activities and events will include live music from One Love Reggae Band and Rio and the Rockabilly Revival, Wheelhouse Detroit bike rentals, outdoor classes from Ren Cen Fitness, Canine to Five dog play dates, vendors such as Bon Bon Bon, Cyberoptix Tie Lab, and McClary Bros., and rotating food trucks.

“The vision for the GM Plaza was to provide a gathering place for the community,” says Claudia Killeen, General Motors’ manager of Renaissance Center development.

The weekly events are family friendly and free and will kick off  June 9 with performances from country artist Matt Gary and Michigan’s own singer-songwriter, Audrey Ray.

Events will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through Sept. 29.
