Detroit Baseball Dinner 2016

The Detroit Baseball Society held its annual Detroit Baseball Dinner on Jan. 23 at the Bloomfield Hills Country Club. The featured speaker was Al Avila, general manager of the Detroit Tigers.

Opening Reception for WGPR-TV62 Detroit Historical Museum Exhibit

WGPR-TV62 held a reception on Jan. 22 to unveil a new exhibit about the African-American broadcast station at the Detroit Historical Museum. The Detroit-based station was founded by Dr. William V. Gates in 1975.

AFPD’s 100th Anniversary Celebration

AFPD, a Michigan-based trade association made up of thousands of independent retailers, celebrated its 100th anniversary on Jan. 9 at Penna's of Sterling in Sterling Heights. More than 1,000 people enjoyed a sitdown dinner, a silent auction, and live entertainment.

’13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi’ Event

On Jan. 21, the Italian American Banquet Center in Livonia hosted Kris Paronto, a former Army Ranger and co-author of 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. More than 200 guests listened to Paronto's perspective of the attack. The event included dinner, a silent auction, and a book signing.

25th Annual Auto Glow

Nearly $300,000 was raised at The Children Center's Auto Glow on Jan. 15 at Detroit's Ford Field. The funds support services for 7,500 families. Close to $5 million has been raised since 1991.

Library Street Collective’s Group Exhibition Opening

Downtown Detroit's Library Street Collective hosted an artists' reception for its new group exhibition on Feb. 27. The next exhibit features works by artists such as Adrian Falkner, AJ Fosik, Mars-1, Sam Friedman, and Shepard Fairey, among others.

Comedy for a Cause 2016

Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle in Royal Oak hosted a night of comedy and entertainment on Feb. 10 to benefit the Salvation Army's Bed & Bread Club Radiothon. The event featured comedian Darrin Rose with Steve Lind and Billy Ray Bauer.

Corks and Forks 2016

Winning Futures, a nonprofit in Warren that mentors youth, hosted Corks and Forks on Feb. 27 at the Southfield Westin. Guests sampled a selection of more than 40 wines, while also enjoying martinis, a strolling dinner, and a silent auction.

35th Annual Black History Month Gala Celebration

The Ford-employees African-Ancestry Network hosted a gala celebrating black history month at The Henry hotel in Dearborn on Feb. 26. Detroit native Jerome Bettis, a Pro Football Hall of Fame running back, gave the keynote address, and guests enjoyed a strolling dinner, entertainment, and dancing. Dave Bing, Lem Barney, Willie Horton, and the late Emanuel Steward were honored.

Founders Junior Council’s 2016 Cirque

The Founders Junior Council held a black and white masquerade gala at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Feb. 20. Guests enjoyed drinks and dancing at the event inspired by Truman Capote's ball held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in 1966.
