Axalta Opens Americas Technology Center for Coatings Development

Axalta Coating Systems, a global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, yesterday announced the grand opening of its Americas Technology Center (ATC) at its manufacturing and resource complex in Mount Clemens. The ATC will provide product research and development resources to customers in the western hemisphere as one of the company’s four principal global technology centers.

Dembs Development Acquires Former Federal-Mogul Corp. Headquarters

After remaining vacant for more than a year, Dembs Development — a Farmington Hills-based real estate development company that designs, builds, manages, and owns real estate properties throughout southeastern Michigan — today announced the acquisition of the former Federal-Mogul Corp. headquarters, a 360,000-square foot facility in Southfield.

Area45 Fitness has recently opened their first facility located at 3536 Rochester Rd. in Troy. The first of a projected Midwest franchise, Area45 Fitness combines high intensity interval training (HIIT) similar to the Insanity workouts, with LED lighting and pressure-sensitive floors to allow participants to track their activity level throughout the 45-minute session.

Amcor Rigid Plastics Announces Specialty Container Acquisition in Latin America

Ann Arbor-based Amcor Rigid Plastics today announced the expansion of its specialty container business in Latin America with the acquisition of Columbia’s Plasticos Team S.A.S. from Team Foods Columbia, a national food producer. Plasticos Team is a producer and distributor of preforms, bottles, thin-wall containers, and closures.

Former U-M Health CEO Dr. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz Named 7th Oakland University President

Oakland University today announced the appointment of Dr. Ora Hirsch Pescovitz as the new president of the institution. Pescovitz will be the university’s seventh president when she succeeds current president George Hynd, who will be in office until Aug. 14. The university’s Board of Trustees voted Thursday to hire Dr. Pescovitz, a senior vice president at Eli Lilly and former CEO of the University of Michigan Health System.

Auto Suppliers Faurecia and ZF Enter Strategic Partnership

Global automotive suppliers ZF and Faurecia today announced a strategic partnership for the development of disruptive and differentiating interior and safety technologies for autonomous driving. The advanced engineering partnership allows ZF, which operates its North American headquarters in Northville Township, and Faurecia, which has its North American headquarters in Auburn Hills, to identify and develop safety and interior solutions linked to different potential occupant positions. 

IHS Markit Projects Automotive Display Systems Market Will Grow to $21B in 2022

IHS Markit, a London-based technology analysis company with an office in Southfield today projected the primary automotive display systems market will reach $11.6 billion in tier one supply revenue globally in 2017, and grow to $21 billion by 2022. The market is expected to increase drastically over the next few years, according to an Automotive Display Systems Forecast by IHS Markit.

Ford Begins Construction on Wagner Place in West Dearborn

Dearborn’s Ford Motor Co. is continuing their campus transformation, breaking ground yesterday on Wagner Place, a $60 million urban development including office and retail space in west Dearborn. Scheduled for completion next year, the 150,000-square-foot site will provide Ford employees and residents with new retail and restaurant options, as well as generous amounts of green space, outdoor seating, and greater walkability.
