WIT, a Troy-based analytics consulting firm that offers data visualization, data management, analytics strategy, and data science, has announced it will host its seventh annual Great Lakes Business Intelligence and Big Data Summit.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at the Detroit Marriott Troy. It will include keynotes from industry experts, case study sessions, analytics software demonstrations, hands-on software workshop sessions, and networking opportunities.

Last year, the event drew 350 business intelligence and IT professionals from automotive, finance, business services, health care, and other fields.

“The Great Lakes BI and Big Data Summit is a valuable opportunity for analytics professionals to get a comprehensive day of training and networking right here in southeast Michigan,” says Quaid Saifee, president of WIT. “Any big, out-of-town conference out will take you out of the office for a week and cost thousands of dollars. The BI Summit costs less than a hotel room and you can be home in time for dinner. But most importantly, attendees will walk away with insights and practical tips on how to stay relevant in the analytics field, as it is rapidly shifting toward advanced analytics and data science.”

Business intelligence includes the applications, infrastructure and tools, and best practices that enable access to and analysis of information to improve and optimize decisions and performance. Big data is high-volume, high-velocity, and high-variety information assets that demand cost-effective, innovative forms of information processing that enable enhanced insight, decision-making, and process automation.

The summit also will address data management, machine learning, and data visualization.

Alberto Cairo, the Knight chair in visual journalism at the University of Miami and the author of The Functional Art: An Introduction to Information Graphics and Visualization and The Truthful Art: Data, Charts, and Maps for Communication, is the featured keynote speaker.

Registration is $169 per person until Feb. 1, when the price increases to $179. Groups of three or more from the same company can receive a 10-percent discount on registration. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and refreshments are included.
