Ambassador Bridge officials Monday announced the commuter toll will decrease from $4.60 and $4 to $2.60, effective Feb. 18.
The new toll will apply every day, anytime, and in both directions. The change comes after the closing of the Detroit Windsor Tunnel, the closing of I-75, a shortage of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canada Border Services Agency staff, and lane closures on the bridge.
“The Bridge will open a third lane for commuters from Canada to the U.S. every weekday morning from 6:30-8:30 a.m., and a third lane for commuters from the U.S. to Canada every weekday afternoon from 4-6:00 p.m.,” says Dan Stamper, president of the Ambassador Bridge. “We have been testing this swap of lanes during similar times at the Ambassador Bridge for several months with great response from the commuters.”
Current commuter card holders will automatically be enrolled in the Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card Program. The program allows commuters to prepay their tolls electronically and clear customs in the fastest way. Enrollment in the program also reduces the need for U.S. and Canadian customs operations and bridge facilities.
New commuters can stop at the Ammex Duty Free Store on the U.S. side of the bridge to register for the program.
