Vinotecca, a full-service wine bar restaurant and live blues and jazz music venue, will be opening in downtown Birmingham on Friday. It replaces The Bird and the Bread. Located at 210 S. Old Woodward Ave, Vinotecca will feature a wine bar and a small plates menu offering world cuisine.

The restaurant will be open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and brunch on Saturday and Sunday, with brunch beginning on Feb. 3. Ongoing wine education, live music, and comedy events will be offered, as well.

Last October, the Jonna Family of Restaurants announced plans to convert The Bird and the Bread into a restyled version if its original Vinotecca wine bar in downtown Royal Oak, which converted to a Jolly Pumpkin last August.

John Jonna, and his daughter, Kristin Jonna, also own and operate Vinology Wine Bar and Restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor.

“I’ve spent my whole life studying the science of wine and food pairings, and with Vinotecca’s selection of wine and culinary offerings, I am very excited to join the flavors of each to create the third and share it with others who visit us,” says John.

The wine cellar at Vinotecca will offer a range of selections at all price points in addition to wine and cocktails on tap and a selection of craft beer. Executive chef Adam Galloway created the new menu with choices that mirror cuisine offered at Vinology.

Pairings at Vinotecca will be available for viewing both on a menu and a tablet wine list. The digital wine list will feature inventory and pictures of the bottles, a periodic blog from John and Kristin about the wine and pairing it with food, a wine trivia game, wine flights, and more.

“We have long wanted to bring Vinotecca to Birmingham and reinvent it here as we continue to educate and entertain our guests with the exciting world of wine and food,” says Kristin.

Entertainment will be offered in the adjoining special events banquet area, The ELM Room. Additionally, it is available for private parties for up to 300 guests.

The Jonna family has been in the food and wine business for over 40 years. John Jonna began in the 70s as co-founder of Merchant of Vino, metro Detroit’s forerunner in gourmet food and wine and seven-store chain. It was later sold to Whole Foods Market.
