The 2.2 million-square-foot Southfield Town Center is nearing completion of its third phase of renovations. The announcement was made Monday by 601W, the New York owner of the center.
A new entrance to the 3000 building has been completed, along with expanded surface parking. Other updates include upgrading hallways that connect the buildings, renovations to the front lobby and entranceway, and upgrades to the parking structures.
More green spaces will also be added to the building, as well as collaborative areas, a conference center, and a Starbucks coffee bar. The architectural work was performed by Neumann/Smith Architecture, which has offices in downtown Detroit and Southfield.
“These renovations are going to reinvigorate our tenant base when they are complete,” says Clarence Gleeson, senior vice president of Transwestern, the property manager overseeing the renovations. “Having everything you need during the course of your day, all within walking distance from your office, makes coming to work something to appreciate.”
Transwestern hopes to bring in more companies with the new space. According to recent data listed last year in DBusiness magazine’s November/December 2017 issue, Southfield Town Center – Tower 1000 has 598,232 total square feet of office space, of which 190,746 square feet was available.
Southfield Town Center – Tower 3000 has 583,982 total square feet of office space of which 333,509 square feet was available. Southfield Town Center – Tower 2000 has 556,723 total office square feet of space, of which 42,145 square feet was available.
“Our industry is fast-paced and always evolving, so we needed a space that would embrace those ideals while giving our employees a place where they would look forward to coming to,” says Jay Laney, director of purchasing for HelloWorld, a digital marketing company that moved into the center in 2015. “The Southfield Town Center offered us a blank canvas with the ability to make the space ours and show off our personality.”
The center has a capacity to house 7,000 workers. 601W Cos. acquired the property for $177.5 million in 2014.
