Red Effect Infrared Fitness in Birmingham today announced Arnie Kander, a former NBA strength and conditioning coach with the Detroit Pistons, will join the company’s executive team as its chief medical director.

"Arnie is long considered the NBA's best strength and conditioning coach by players past and present, and we are thrilled that he is coming out of retirement to help us scale Red Effect Infrared Fitness globally with his extraordinary expertise on the science of infrared," says Alllie T. Mallad, founder and CEO of Red Effect Infrared Fitness.

Kander had a 25-year career with the Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves. He has also become an equity partner with the company.

Kyle Draper, a former front office veteran of the Pistons and the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, plans to open new Red Effect locations in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market. He is one of seven additional franchise owners across the country, with other locations including Ann Arbor, Fairfax, Va., Chicago, San Diego, and Charleston, S.C. by mid-summer 2018.

Red Effect integrates infrared therapy with interval fitness training. The heat emitted warms the body and encourages sweating.

"Among numerous health and wellness benefits, the innovative approach of infrared therapy could help fitness studio guests lose weight, lower their blood pressure, improve circulation, release toxins, reduce stress, increase energy, and recover faster,” Mallad says. “We are first to market with this concept. We are passionate about positioning Red Effect Infrared Fitness to be the absolute best fitness value in the world for our members who are seeking optimal health and wellness."

Red Effect is slated to open more locations in Michigan, Illinois, California, Florida, Canada, and other markets by the end of 2018.
