RE/MAX of Southeastern Michigan in Troy today released its list of best local cities for first-time home buyers. The five selected cities, ranked from least expensive to most expensive, are Westland, St. Clair Shores, Clawson, Livonia, and Royal Oak.
“While lack of inventory continues to strain southeast Michigan’s housing market, there are still many affordable options available to first-time home buyers,” says Jeanette Schneider, vice president of RE/MAX of Southeastern Michigan. “Buyers, however, must be prepared to move quickly when the desired home hits the market.”
Factors considered include affordability, positive trends in sale prices, neighborhood amenities, and growing popularity with buyers.
In Westland, the current median home sale price is $122,500. The city has lots of shopping and restaurant options and is close to the freeways. St. Clair Shores’ median home sale price is $129,999 and offers water and freeway access. Clawson offers a median home sale price of $195,000 and has parks and recreational spaces. Livonia has one of the lowest tax rates in Wayne County and offers parks and a centralized location. Its median sales price is also $195,000. Royal Oak offers walkability, an active nightlife, and a median home sale price of $205,000.
RE/MAX of Southeastern Michigan covers Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties. It has nearly 1,000 sales associates and 60 offices. Globally, RE/MAX has more than 100,000 agents and operates in almost 100 countries.
