Mackinac Island’s Mission Point Resort will open for the season with 108 renovated Main Lodge hotel rooms and suites. The completion of the rooms is part of $5 million in updates the Ware family has made since taking ownership of the resort in 2014.
The Main Lodge has 101 traditional rooms and seven suites. They were designed to bring the colors of the island to the hotel, reflecting the design vision of the Ware family.
“Our goal in renovating Mission Point Resort is to build upon the natural and incomparable assets of the property, being situated on the water’s edge at the island’s east end with magnificent vistas,” says Liz Ware, vice president of Mission Point Resort. “As we continue to steward updates to the property, we hope guests to Mission Point Resort have a sense of relaxed elegance, where the experience inside and outside of the resort is seamless, effortless, and exceptional.”
The room renovations are the latest of many updates. The hotel recently opened the Lakeside Spa and Salon, the island’s only full-service health and wellness retreat. It has also revamped its food and beverage program in Chianti, a traditional Italian restaurant; Bistro on the Greens, an al fresco café; and Round Island Bar and Grill, which serves American fare. New restaurants include Reserve Wine Bar, and Boxwood Coffeeshop and Café.
“As we have been considering the cadence of updates and improvements to make at Mission Point, from the very beginning we knew it was important to make an impression with our food and beverage program,” says Ware. “We are bringing extraordinary culinary experiences to our guests and visitors, with selections and settings that are unique to Mission Point.”
Packages for the 2018 season, which begins on Friday, April 27, include Pooch at the Point and the Lake to Plate Fishing and Culinary Experience. The property has an outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, 38,000 square feet of space for corporate events and weddings, and its Green Lawn has chairs overlooking the Straits of Mackinac.
The hotel celebrates 30 years as Mission Point Resort in 2018. The buildings and grounds have attracted vacationers since the late 1800s.
