Meritor Inc. in Troy today announced it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Howell’s AA Gear and Manufacturing Inc. (AAG) and its subsidiaries. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

AAG is a privately-held manufacturer that provides low to medium volume batch manufacturing for complex gear and shaft applications, as well as quick-turnaround prototyping solutions and emergency plant support. The company has worked with customers in the agriculture, construction, heavy truck, diversified industrial, and automotive industries.

“The addition of AAG will provide our components business with increased technical capabilities that will enable Meritor to offer new products and applications and to accelerate our components growth strategy,” says Kevin Nowlan, senior vice president and president of trailer, components, and CFO. “We are confident that AAG will fit seamlessly into our components business, and we look forward to working together to serve our customers, drive operational excellence, and achieve our growth objectives.”

Meritor also announced the launch of two axles for extreme off-highway applications – the MOX-32, a 32,000-pound rated planetary front-drive steer axle for heavy-duty and off-highway applications, and the MON-32, a 32,000-pound rated non-drive steer axle for applications that haul demanding loads but do not require a driven front axle.

Meritor is a global supplier of drivetrain, mobility, braking, and aftermarket solutions for commercial vehicle and industrial markets. The company has about 8,200 employees in manufacturing facilities, engineering centers, joint ventures, distribution centers, and offices in 19 countries.
