David Kraus, a partner at Maccabees Traders, an Asian fusion restaurant located in the Maccabees Building in Detroit’s Midtown district (5057 Woodward), has launched Juice and Fuel in downtown Detroit. The new juice bar offers a range of smoothies, juices, hot tonics, acai bowls, soups, yogurt parfaits, and grab and go meals.
“When you look around downtown, there aren’t any juice bars, so we opened quietly before the holidays and now our business is really taking off,” says Krause, owner and head juicer of Juice and Fuel. “Our signs are going up, and we appeal to people who want to live a more healthy lifestyle as well as vegetarians, vegans, and people overcoming a recent illness.”
Located at 110 Michigan Ave., immediately west of Griswold Street, Juice and Fuel is set next to CrossFit in the D, a workout facility. Both businesses are located at the ground floor of The Griswold, a new apartment building atop a parking deck. The Griswold is located immediately east of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel.
Juice and Fuel menu items include protein smoothies, including Post Workout, Recovery, Energy Booster, “Choconut” Blaster, Healthy Summer, and Blueberry Kush. Juices include Joint Reliever, Rehydrator, Orange Sunrise, and Red Sunset.
Grab and go meals include paleo turkey meatballs, Mahi Mahi, Aukra Norwegian salmon, USDA flat iron steak, and veggie and chicken wraps.
The décor includes a mixture of metal countertops, an open bar, garage doors that will be open in warmer months, and the use of reclaimed wood, including long tables and benches that utilized wood from the now closed Kronk Gym on Detroit’s west side. As the weather warms, Krause plans to offer a bicycle-delivery service.
Juice and Fuel sources its produce and other ingredients from Eastern Market and local farmers (in season). The restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
