Stahls’, a global manufacturer, distributor, and direct supplier of garment decoration equipment, materials, transfer technology, and decorated apparel, in Sterling Heights has announced it would be providing all U.S. employees, including those in full-time and part-time positions, as well as student interns, with a one-time “Power Boost Bonus.”

The bonus follows recent federal tax legislation, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed by President Trump late last year. Initial bonuses of $1,200 were given to U.S. employees who had been with the company for more than 90 days, with smaller bonuses for full-time and part-time employees with the company less than 90 days.

“Hard work is at the core of our business’ foundation. From the time Stahls’ was started by my grandfather, A.C. Stahl, in his home garage back in 1932, our work has required brains, brawn, and stamina from our growing workforce,” says Ted Stahl, executive chairman of Stahls’.

“When benefits of this new tax reform became available to our business, my first thought was about how we could use it to show our appreciation to our employees. We’re proud to have the opportunity to acknowledge their hard work and dedication to our company.”

When Stahl learned that the bonuses must be taxed at 22 percent, according to Federal Tax Law, he adjusted all $1,200 pre-tax bonuses to ensure employees would receive $1,000 after taxes. Other bonuses were also adjusted accordingly.

In a letter to the Stahl family, Steven Jackson, a business operations manager at Stahls’ facility in St. Clair Shores, said, “I wanted to reach out and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the generosity you have shown all of us. As I am sure you know, I spent 20 years of my life in the U.S. Navy. It provided much more than a job for me.

“The comradery, esprit de corps, and feeling of family was something that I truly valued. When I retired from the Navy, I was worried that no job would ever give me that same feeling or sense of worth to an organization. Stahls’ has been exactly that. I am constantly taken back by the way so many that work here are connected not as coworkers or even friends but rather as a family.”

Stahls’ innovations and offerings allow its customers — from small businesses and entrepreneurs to pro sports leagues and high profile brands — to brand virtually any uniform, t-shirt, accessory, and sporting good. The company operates manufacturing and distribution centers throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.
