ExperienceIT, a nonprofit partnership of leading downtown Detroit technology companies, has announced that its fall 2018 cohort will kick off on Sept. 13. The 10-week program provides free IT training for active job openings in software development and quality assurance.

The program is entering its fifth year. Deadline for registration is July 9. This year’s class will include self-guided and self-directed online modules complementing an in-classroom curriculum. The classes will be held onsite at ExperienceIT company locations.

The program is led by Quicken Loans Inc., GalaxE.Solutions, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, DTE Energy, In-House Realty, OneMagnify (formerly Marketing Associates), and Amrock (formerly Title Source).

“Real-world training for real-world jobs remains vital to continuing to build a world-class information technology hub in downtown Detroit,” says Andy Frey, CIO of OneMagnify and recently-named chair of ExperienceIT. “We are committed to fast tracking the best and brightest for work and careers that are available right now, right away.”

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates have the opportunity to interview with ExperienceIT partner companies. Since the program began in 2014, nearly 200 individuals have graduated.

Hard skills training will focus on .NET and C# technology, while soft skills, such as those related to interpersonal communication, working in teams, and job interviews, are also components of the program’s core focus.

“There is nothing quite so rewarding as to see bright minds with IT aptitude become engaged and learn these much sought-after software development skills,” says LingLong He, CIO of Quicken Loans and chair emeritus of ExperienceIT. “There is work to be done and innovation to create here in Detroit for the world.”

The Workforce Intelligence Network is also a strategic partner of the program, assisting with soft-skills training and administration of the program.
