Eyeglass retailer Warby Parker is slated to open its second Michigan store on Saturday, May 19, located at Level 1 of Somerset North at the Somerset Collection in Troy. The company’s first Michigan location opened at 1449 Woodward Ave. in downtown Detroit in 2016.

The Somerset location will be designed to look like a classic library with brass detailing, book displays, and a marble “reference desk.” The glasses and other products will be displayed on oak shelving. Behind the reference desk will be a mural by Detroit artist Jesse Kassel.

The store will offer comprehensive eye exams with online booking, and prescription glasses will be shipped within days. Warby Parker also offers an app that allows advisers in the store to send customers digital overviews of the frames they tried on, along with their measurements.

Warby Parker started as an online venture and has since expanded to more than 65 retail locations, including two in the Canada, and 1,400 employees. The company also has its own optical lab in upstate New York and has launched apps for customers to shop for glasses and sunglasses and get an updated prescription without leaving home.

In celebration of the opening, Warby Parker is slated to release a pair of sunglasses called Percy in Crystal exclusive to the Somerset location.

For every pair of glasses or sunglasses purchased, the company distributes a pair to someone in need.

“We’re so pleased to be opening the doors of our second store in the Detroit area. Troy’s historic foundation and thriving entrepreneurial spirit made it a given for our newest location,” says Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker.

The company is slated to open a store in Ann Arbor later this year.
