DJI, a China-based civilian drone and aerial imaging technology company, Tuesday announced it will open Michigan’s first DJI Authorized Retail Store in Troy. The more-than-1,500-square-foot location will be in the parking lot of Oakland Mall.

The store is affiliated with Excel Drones in Garden City. The Troy will include a flight cage where customers can learn from in-store pilots and see drones and equipment perform in real time.

“We are thrilled to have the first DJI Authorized Retail Store in the state of Michigan,” says Fred Kandah, owner of the Troy location and director of Excel Drones. “We provide a place where people can discover what DJI can do for aerial enthusiasts, from the novice to the professional. We provide the tools, the technology, and the resources for creators to become innovators. Drones with sophisticated cameras open up a world of possibility.”

A ribbon cutting and grand opening event will be open to the public from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. The first 50 customers will receive DJI giveaways and discounts, and attendees have the opportunity to enter to win a Mavic Air and a Spark (drones), and an Osmo Mobile 2 (a smartphone gimbal). Product demonstrations and test flights will also take place, and hot dogs, donuts, apple cider, and a photo booth will be available.

The store’s regular hours will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

DJI was founded in 2006 and has nine authorized retailers in the U.S. and thousands of DJI resellers across the globe.
