Rossetti, a Detroit-based sports and entertainment architecture firm, Wednesday announced it has completed renovations of Michigan State University’s Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing.
The venue features a new Championship Plaza and Gilbert Pavilion, located at the Northwest Campus entrance of the center. The plaza houses an iconic statue of Magic Johnson, and the pavilion has a canted glass façade. The pavilion is also home to the Basketball Hall of History and includes interactive displays, LED columns that show customizable content, and a diorama of the Spartans’ uniforms throughout the years.
The renovations include an alumni locker room, a recruitment lounge, and a strength and conditioning room named after Spartan basketball star Draymond Green, who donated $3.1 million to the school’s basketball program in 2015. New food and beverage options are also available.
“After 25 years, there was an opportunity to enhance the aesthetic of the Breslin Center, giving it the look of a professional arena and reflecting the atmosphere fans experience attending events at the venue,” says Matt Rossetti, president of the firm. “Our goal with this project was to update the Breslin Center in a way that both celebrated the storied history of the basketball program while incorporating expanded social spaces and dynamic technological displays to provide fans with an even greater immersive experience.”
Rossetti has been family owned for 50 years, and the firm designed the former Detroit Pistons’ NBA arena, the Palace of Auburn Hills, in 1986. Recent projects include the renovation of Ford Field, The Albert, both in Detroit, the USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, and the Graphic Arts Lofts in Midtown.
