The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Detroit Chapter today announced the awardees and details of its annual National Philanthropy Day Dinner, to be held on Nov. 8 at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn.
Each year the fundraising and nonprofit community comes together to celebrate National Philanthropy Day and to recognize metro Detroit’s philanthropists and volunteers.
The AFP Greater Detroit Chapter’s 2018 National Philanthropy Day awardees are made up of individual, corporate, and foundation donors as well as volunteers. The awardees are:
MAX M. FISHER AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIST
Ron and Eileen Weiser, nominated by University of Michigan-Dearborn
EDMUND T. AHEE JEWEL AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISER
Karen Colina Wilson Smithbauer, nominated by the Autism Alliance of Michigan
OUTSTANDING CORPORATION AWARD
JP Morgan Chase, nominated by Southwest Solutions
OUTSTANDING FOUNDATION AWARD
William Davidson Foundation, nominated by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Allan Gilmour, nominated by Wayne State University (Gilmour was a former president at Wayne State University and past vice chairman at Ford Motor Co.)
In addition, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Detroit Chapter announced that its media sponsor for the National Philanthropy Day Dinner is Troy-based Hour Media, which publishes more than 70 magazines and 300 titles.
As part of the partnership, National Philanthropy Day will be promoted in DBusiness, Hour Detroit, and Give Detroit, as well as Hour Media’s websites. A special editorial piece on the 2018 National Philanthropy Day Dinner and honorees will be featured in this fall’s issue of Give Detroit, and it will carry the AFP GDC logo.
Give Detroit is a year-round resource for non-profit professionals, board members, and corporate and individual donors seeking to learn more about philanthropy in the region and how to support it.
In addition to highlighting the local National Philanthropy Day honorees, there will be significant content focused on emerging issues affecting philanthropy, as well as profiles of the community’s top non-profits highlighting their leadership, board members, key statistics, and top fundraising events.
