Ann Arbor’s U-M to Offer Course on Leadership Principles

Ann Arbor’s University of Michigan Ross School of Business Wednesday announced the launch of a 20-week course designed to equip leaders with the tools to learn and execute high-impact leadership principles, including positive leadership, talent management, and follow-through.

The course will be delivered through CorpU’s online platform and instructed by Robert Quinn, author of 18 books on leadership subjects and co-founder of the Center for Positive Organizations. It requires daily practice to create change in leadership behavior.

“The positive leadership content delivered on CorpU’s platform makes learning a daily habit so that we are constantly reminded of the type of leaders we aspire to be,” says Chester Kustarz, vice president of engineering at DUO Security. “The format and low cost makes it easy to scale leadership development across the organization.”

CorpU’s approach draws on a body of research that suggests traditional leadership development methods are not optimal in creating last change on their own. The five-minute courses in the program enable executives to practice new strategies on a consistent basis, which increases the long-term effectiveness of learning. Participants are also prompted to share reactions with their cohort and engage in structured dialogue about how the lesson is relevant to specific challenges.

“For decades, traditional corporate training has failed to deliver on the promise of meaningful, measurable change,” says Alan Todd, CEO of CorpU. “Participants of this course learn how to take the small steps — practicing principles and embedding new behavior every day — that can serve as a ‘booster shot’ after training, and lead to tangible improvements across the organization.”

In conjunction with the release of the program, CorpU has built new software features that encourage and measure follow-through and execution. Calls to action will enable more platform-based coaching.
