Ann Arbor-based Duo Security, a data security company, has announced it will expand operations to the historic Julian C. Madison Building, located at 1420 Washington Blvd. in downtown Detroit. The expansion will be led by the company’s engineering, information services, and product teams.

The first phase of growth in Detroit will begin with the relocation of 30 employees to a temporary, shared space at Bamboo Detroit. The company says it will expand into 9,000 square feet of exclusive space on the building’s sixth floor by the end of the year and plans to hire more workers.

“Detroit has always moved the world, both in body and soul, through its industry and art,” says Dug Song, co-founder and CEO of Duo Security. “Our Detroit office is an opportunity to build upon this rich history of innovation after years of collaboration with friends in the city to bridge our regional tech community.”

Duo was founded in 2010 and has sponsored and participated in events such as Detroit Startup Week and Techweek Detroit. Duo executives have mentored Detroit-based entrepreneurs, and the company plans to host Duo Tech Talks featuring local and global technology leaders in the new space.

“We couldn’t be more proud to have Duo make their first major step downtown by welcoming them to Bamboo,” says Amanda Lewan, co-founder and CEO at Bamboo. “Dug and his team have invaluable experience into what it takes to successfully scale and disrupt, and we look forward to connecting them with local startups for their collaboration and advice on growing their businesses.”

Duo has 350 employees in Michigan, and has 600 employees overall. The company offers cybersecurity and other technology-related services. It has more than 10,000 customers globally, including Etsy, Random House, Yelp, Paramount Pictures, Dresser-Rand, K-Swiss, and Zillow.
