Detroit’s Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute will celebrate its 25th annual Partners Event 7 p.m.-midnight on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Michigan Building Theatre in Detroit. All proceeds go to cancer research.

The carnival-themed gala will include a strolling cocktail reception and dinner, silent auction, raffle, games, and live entertainment.

“It really is a very engaging evening that allows attendees to connect,” says Katrina Studvent, chief development officer at Karmanos.

This year’s honoree is Jack D. Sobel, dean of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, who will be recognized for his career as a medical leader, clinician, and educator. Karmanos has partnered with WSU for more than 70 years.

Studvent says the 25th anniversary of the event highlights the relationship Karmanos has with WSU. The organizations work together to advance research.

The silver anniversary will also celebrate the accomplishments of the Partners Committee, a group of young professionals who work to raise awareness and money to support the cancer research program at Karmanos through Partners Events. Since its inception, the Partners have raised more than $16 million.

“Many of (the Partners) have been touched in some way by cancer themselves,” says Studvent.

Michigan Building Theatre is located at 220 Bagley Ave., Detroit. The event is $175 per person, or $95 for guests ages 21-30. Valet parking is included.
