Plymouth Township-based Varroc Lighting Systems has announced an expansion into the Brazilian market, supporting the company’s global growth plans. The strategic expansion was made possible through a partnership with German company Merka Lang, with both companies now sharing a 66,000-sqaure foot facility in Sorocaba, where Merka Lang has been operating since 1998.

Varroc Lighting Systems plans to hire more than 160 Brazilian production employees to manage key launches for several global automakers over the next few years.

“The primary intent of expanding to Brazil at this time is to support our customers with the right footprint for global vehicle platforms,” says Stephane Vedie, CEO of Varroc Lighting Systems. “Global automakers are increasingly looking for ways to reduce cost and complexity and increase efficiencies. By building both a physical presence and team in this critical market, we have become one of the world’s only exterior lighting suppliers with capabilities on every continent where vehicles are produced.”

In addition to sharing a facility, Merka Lang will supply injection molding and administrative support for Varroc Lighting in Brazil. The two companies have also collaborated in India, where Varroc’s parent company Varroc Group is headquartered.

Varroc Lighting Systems currently employs more than 7,200 through operations in Europe, Asia, North and South America, and brings technology to the mainstream automotive market.
