Visteon Corp., a Van Buren-based global innovator in the automotive cockpit segment, has released its next-generation Phoenix Infotainment platform at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

As infotainment becomes the hub of the connected vehicle industry, the Phoenix enables third party developers to easily create apps, while delivering built-in cybersecurity and over-the-air updates.

Phoenix also offers an automotive-oriented JavaScript application program interface for HTML5-based app development. It is the first automotive infotainment system to facilitate app creation through a software development kit and software simulation of the target hardware system.

“Visteon is reimagining infotainment from the perspective of both app developers and the end-user,” says Sachin Lawande, president and CEO of Visteon. “Through this latest advancement, Phoenix will break down the traditional barrier for embedded automotive app development that has restricted the availability of apps for infotainment systems.”

Visteon’s unique SDK incorporates libraries of code, documents, and a simulator to support app development by third parties. The SDK makes app development easier than the conventional approach, which traditionally requires custom software and hardware normally exceeding the budgets of third party developers.

With Phoenix, the developer will be able to log on to a Visteon microsite and create and test apps with an SDK and a simulator. Apps will then be validated by a respective automaker or Visteon, and then published to an app store for driver purchase and use.
