Detroit-based manufacturer Shinola has announced the Lake Erie Monster Limited Edition Timepeice, the brand’s first dive watch and first timepiece to utilize an automatic movement.
Named after a legendary sea creature first reportedly spotted in 1783, the Lake Erie Monster watch celebrates the Great Lakes and its explorers, pioneers, sailors, and divers. Limited to 500 units, the timepiece set retails for $2,250 and includes a Princeton Tech diver’s flashlight and map of the Great Lakes.
Machined from 316L stainless steel, the 43mm case was inspired by the lines of classic sailing ships and their movement through water. The watch is rated for depths up to 1,000 feet and features a double dome sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
The Lake Erie Monster timepiece is engineered and tested in-house to meet the industry standard for dive watches, and features a unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert and a black enamel dial. Super Luminova indexes also allow for maximum visibility. The diver down flag is represented at 12 o’clock.
The Lake Erie Monster timepiece is powered by an Argomatic R-150 automatic movement, and features 25 jewels and a 40-hour power reserve. The movement is manufactured by Ronda in Switzerland and the watch is assembled in Shinola’s Detroit watch factory in the Argonaut Building at Second Avenue and Milwaukee Street.
The watch set comes in a stainless steel three-link bracelet and includes a black rubber dive strap and a black fabric strap, all interchangeable with included tools. Additionally, the Lake Erie Monster is covered by a limited lifetime guarantee and a purchase includes membership into The Foundry, a select group of Shinola customers with specialty shopping opportunities and discounted shipping.
