Roush, a full-service development supplier headquartered in Livonia, in collaboration with Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), has been awarded an eight-year contract through the Defense Automotive Technologies Consortium to develop two combat vehicle demonstrator platforms.

The Warren-based U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) will fund the program with an initial value not to exceed $237 million.

TARDEC officials believe the project will apply the dramatic mobility, powertrain, survivability, lethality, communications, and sensors technology advancements made in recent years to develop a lightweight, powerful, tracked vehicle that can exceed the capabilities of current Army ground vehicle platforms.

“Roush is honored that the U.S. Army and TARDEC have chosen our team to develop these next generation combat vehicle prototypes,” says Evan Lyall, Roush CEO. “Together with SAIC and the other members, we have a tremendous opportunity to apply Roush’s capabilities in an area that is so vital to the future of our national defense.”

Roush’s partners will include SAIC, Lockheed Martin Corp., Moog Inc., GS Engineering Inc., and the Nevada Automotive Test Center.

With more than 40 years of vehicle development experience, Roush will provide critical engineering simulation analysis, design, development, manufacturing, and testing support services focused on powertrain integration, vehicle system architecture and thermal management, low and high voltage electrical systems, autonomous system integration, vehicle testing, data analytics, and validation expertise from the company’s Troy Technical Center.

The project is expected to begin on or before Oct. 1.
