A new industry trade group, the Michigan US China Exchange Center in Troy, has launched and will host a delegation from the China Wuxi Die and Mould Trade Association on Nov. 8 at the Iroquois Club in Bloomfield Hills (5-9 p.m.).
The Michigan US China Exchange Center will host 10 to 12 events a year, mostly in metro Detroit as well as lead business and educational trips to mainland China. Most recently, the nonprofit trade group, which was formed over the summer, attended a connected vehicle seminar in China with a group of local business executives and government officials.
“We will focus on drawing Chinese businesses and investment to Michigan, especially in metro Detroit, as well as highlight our tourism and educational opportunities here,” says Jerry Yu, founder and president of the Michigan US China Exchange Center, and former president of the Detroit Chinese Business Association. “We are a new business advocacy group.
“I started this new organization to better serve metro Detroit and Michigan. At the DCBA, it was very focused on B2B relationships, but with this organization we will focus on a much broader reach of opportunities including B2B, cross border collaborations, tourism, automotive, manufacturing, education, technology, connected and autonomous vehicles, and new materials.”
The reception for the China Wuxi Die and Mould Trade Association on Nov. 8 will include business owners, executives, and government officials from China, as well as local representatives from the automotive and manufacturing industries, including tool and die shops, technology leaders, and executives from related business sectors.
Matthew Gibb, deputy executive of Oakland County, will address the delegation meeting. Sponsors include Oakland County, Alibaba, Micro Research, WOMA, SUNSN, Minghao, and GY.
In the first quarter, the Michigan US China Exchange Center plans to host a large group of investors from China who are looking for opportunities to diversify their portfolios beyond traditional industries to developing opportunities, as well as invest more outside of China.
“Given my 30 years of experience, knowledge, and passion of promoting cross border opportunities between Michigan and China, our goal is to help grow our local economy and help businesses and organizations here expand into mainland China,” Xu says. “We know a large number of potential collaboration partners, and our database is always growing.”
