Bloomfield Hills-based Cranbrook Academy of Art today announced Detroit activist, art community leader, and non-profit executive Jennifer Gilbert as new Chair of the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum Board of Governors beginning July 1, when she will also join the Board of Trustees for Cranbrook Educational Community.

Gilbert will succeed Allan Rothfeder, who has held the position since July 2016. He will continue to serve as a governor and trustee of the Cranbrook Educational Community.

Gilbert has more than 20 years of experience in interior design, art, and Detroit leadership. She has worked with several causes related to the arts, as well social and health issues. Currently, she is president of NF Forward (neurofibromatosis), and is on the Detroit Institute of Arts’ board.

“Jennifer is a visionary with a deep appreciation for the arts,” says Chris Scoates, the Maxine and Stuart Frankel director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum. “Her keen business sense and steadfast support of the city of Detroit will help the Academy and Art Museum advance several initiatives to ensure Cranbrook remains one of the top art and design centers in the world.”

Gilbert has founded several companies: Doodle Home (2010), a digital platform for interior designers; dPop (2013), a commercial interior design studio in Detroit; and Amber Engine (2015), a Detroit-based company that provides product data for the home furnishings industry. All three companies are members of the Quicken Loans Family of Companies. Her husband, Dan Gilbert, is founder and chairman of Quicken Loans.

“Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum are international treasures in terms of art and design,” says Gilbert. “The foresight of the Booth and Saarinen families to create a place to both inspire and create was ahead of its time. I am honored with helping to preserve that legacy.”
