In partnership with The Aspen Institute and Corporation for a Skilled Workforce, JPMorgan Chase & Co. today announced the selection of 22 participants for the first ever Detroit Workforce Leadership Development Academy.

The Academy will leverage and build on the expertise of leaders across the city’s workforce through an intensive, 12-month learning program led by local leaders and guest faculty from across the country. The group will have the opportunity to collaborate on developing practical solutions to solve some of Detroit’s most challenging workforce issues.

As part of the company’s $100 million commitment to the Detroit’s economic recovery, JPMorgan Chase awarded $200,000 to support CSW’s efforts to identify workforce leaders, further engage employers, understand industry workforce needs, and develop successful career pathway strategies by strengthening connections between training providers, job seekers, and employers.

“As a result of this program, this … group of local leaders will be able to come up with innovative and practical solutions that connect Detroiters to open jobs in a way they’ve never done before,” says Chauncy Lennon, head of workforce initiatives for JPMorgan Chase. “The Academy will help advance the city’s focus on creating high-quality jobs and reducing the skills mismatch between local employers and job hunters.”

The program includes an opening retreat in late January, five full-day working sessions from March to September, a second retreat in November, and a closing capstone presentation event in December. The Academy will work to provide practical application and innovative practices, backed by an executive-level council of Detroit’s leaders.
