Trega Island, a 3.8-acre island in Traverse City’s Silver Lake, has been listed for sale after being family owned for more than 70 years.

The property, listed for $1.15 million, includes more than 2,000 feet of private waterfront and a 432-square-foot mid-century cottage residence.

The ranch-style home consists of one bedroom, one bathroom, a loft, a great room, vaulted ceilings, a screened porch, a detached, one-car garage, a garden, and a storage shed. The cottage also includes a refrigerator, an oven, a microwave, and an electric water heater.

Outside of the home, Trega Island’s shoreline lends itself to boating, fishing, and swimming. The rest of the property features hemlocks and multiple bluff sites suitable for hiking and emblematic of northern Michigan.

While the cottage is currently the island’s only residence, Mark Hagan, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Schmidt in Traverse City who is representing the owners, says the property includes a buildable lot that would allow new owners to construct a home to suit their needs.

“It’s your own private island, and yet you’re right next to downtown Traverse City,” Hagan says. “It’s one of those properties that doesn’t come around very often, we’ve sold a few (similar properties) over the years, but there are not that many in Grand Traverse County.”
