Clean Planet Foods, a clean food and natural protein supplier in Clinton Township, has appointed Shawn D. Spencer as president. The company was founded by food entrepreneurs Jack and Annette Aronson after they sold their first company, Garden Fresh Gourmet in Ferndale, to Campbell Soup for $231 million in June 2015.

“Shawn Spencer has the skills and vision to lead Clean Planet Foods from start-up to industry leader,” says Jack Aronson. “His big-picture thinking is critical, not only to the business aspects of clean eating, but also to the public and industry education needed to support our vision of changing the way the world eats for the better.”

Prior to joining Clean Planet Foods, Spencer was an independent management consultant and had a 15-year career in the insurance industry. He was an account executive and eventual president and CEO of full-service insurance agency Underwriters Agency, Inc., and sold a majority of the company to a national carrier in 2008, and the rest in 2010.

“The pursuit of perfection is in Jack Aronson’s DNA, and I’m taking up the mantle to change how the world thinks about food through our innovative protein focus,” says Spencer. “We have the recipe for success, with a delicious, high-quality product, dependable direct delivery channels and, of growing importance, strong retail partners including all Michigan Kroger stores.”

Clean Planet Foods was launched in January 2016, and has focused on research and development, as well as eliciting customer feedback on their line of whole protein products.

As president, Aronson says Spencer will oversee the company’s improvement in processes, products, and packaging, as well as provide the leadership to evolve and position the brand for scalable and sustainable growth.
