The Ypsilanti-based American Center for Mobility (ACM), a non-profit testing and product development facility for automated vehicle technology, has announced a collaboration with SAE International, a global association of engineers and technical experts, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), an international association working to improve transportation systems, to create guidelines for safe and effective deployment of automated vehicle testing and implementation technologies.
ACM, ITE, and SAE will work together to identify methods processes, organizations, and business practices to ensure integration of these voluntary standards for connected and automated vehicles (CAV).
“Voluntary standards are urgent and critical for automated vehicle technology and infrastructure,” says John Maddox, president and CEO of ACM. “The voluntary standards stress a need for CAV technical standards so that automated vehicles are safely incorporated into public transportation systems.”
As international professional organizations, ITE and SAE International are experienced in transportation systems, mobility, automotive, and commercial vehicles. In addition to formally establishing the standards with both companies, ACM hosted its first CAV Test and Validation Standards workshop on May 25. More than 20 automotive OEMs, suppliers, and standards development organizations convened to discuss CAV testing, validation, and standardization.
