Detroit Tigers Name Ron Gardenhire as Manager

The Detroit Tigers today named Ron Gardenhire as the 36th manager in franchise history, per the terms of a three-year contract. Gardenhire has 25 years of managing and coaching experience, including 13 seasons managing the Minnesota Twins, as well as serving as bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season.

The retail property owned by Beaumont Health at the southwest corner of 13 Mile and Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak has been named Woodward Corners by Beaumont and has signed its first two retailers.

Bloomfield Capital in Birmingham Acquires VAR Capital Advisors

Birmingham-based real estate private equity firm Bloomfield Capital and VAR Capital Advisors in Portland, Maine have entered into an agreement for Bloomfield to acquire the consulting platform and key leadership from VAR. In turn, VAR’s founder Renee Lewis will be named managing partner of Bloomfield Capital.

SwRI in Ann Arbor Signs Agreement with A&D Technology and Opens Lab

Ann Arbor-based Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and automotive test equipment supplier A&D Technology Inc. have signed an agreement to provide its clients with powertrain development cells for the Detroit area in their new laboratory space. The expansion will allow clients more convenient access to powertrain engineering services.

Detroit Seeks Proposals for Old Redford Revitalization Project

City of Detroit officials are seeking developers to remake a one third square mile section of Old Redford by rehabilitating 43 vacant houses and demolishing 23 others that are not salvageable. Similar to the recent announcement of the Ella Fitzgerald revitalization project, the Old Redford project will include landscaping and ongoing maintenance of 175 vacant lots.

Chevrolet Expands 2018 Colorado Lineup With ZR2 Midnight and Dusk Editions  

As Chevrolet marks its 100th anniversary of designing and building trucks, the brand is expanding its midsize truck lineup with Colorado ZR2 Midnight Edition and Dusk Edition models. The ZR2 Dusk Edition offers the same content as the ZR2 Midnight, but can be purchased in all other ZR2 exterior finishes, with black accents throughout. Both editions go on sale within the next month and cost $3,425.

Tappers Opens New Store at Somerset Collection Oct. 21  

Tapper’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry will open a new store at the Somerset Collection in Troy at 10 a.m. on Oct. 21. Designed by JGA of Southfield and built by Detroit-based Sachse Construction, the new location will feature a collection of fashion and fine jewelry, loose diamonds, engagement rings, and luxury timepieces including Michigan’s first Rolex shop operated by Tappers.

A co-packing program entitled the Food Entrepreneur Accelerator and Start Up Terminal (FEAST) has been developed by Eastern Market Corp. (EMC) to help local food manufacturing companies launch more quickly.

StockX in Detroit Adds Streetwear to Online Marketplace

Detroit-based StockX, the first online stock market for consumer products, has announced the streetwear vertical addition to their ‘new luxury’ marketplace. Streetwear is StockX’s fourth vertical that can be bought or sold anonymously on the platform. Initially, streetwear will exclusively feature the Supreme brand, with other brands to follow.

Detroit RiverFront Conservancy to Preview Dequindre Cut Freight Yard Oct. 21  

Guests at the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy’s Harvestfest Detroit celebration on Oct. 21 will get a preview of the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard, a retail and entertainment gathering space comprised of nine repurposed shipping containers. The preview takes place from noon to 5 p.m. and will feature music, artisans, food vendors, and a biergarten.

PF Changs to Open Restaurant in Rochester Hills

P.F Chang’s, the full-service Asian fusion restaurant, will be opening a new location on Oct. 23 in Rochester Hills. The 5,861-square-foot space will include patio seating for 32 guests and indoor seating for up to 158 guests.
