Barbat Holdings and E and Q Properties have announced that the former Hotel Briggs at 114 W. Adam St. near Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit will reopen in August with 118 residential apartments. Now called Briggs Houze, the 17-story structure was built in the 1920s.

The project joins two other downtown Detroit buildings that will be renovated by the development group, which includes Houze Living, a property management company, and dPop Culture, an interior design firm. The team recently completed the renovation of the former St. Regis Hotel in Detroit’s New Center into 58 apartments (3075 W. Grand Blvd).

In 2018, West Bloomfield Township-based Barbat Holdings and E and Q Properties plan to complete the renovation of the Philip Houze at 415 Clifford St. into 106 apartments (formerly occupied by Wayne County), and the 10-story Gabriel Houze at 305 Michigan Ave. into 110 apartments (southwest corner of Michigan and Washington Blvd).

The buildings will include studio, one and two bedroom, and penthouse apartments. Amenities range from an Internet café, recreation rooms, in-room laundry, full security detail, concierge services, and bicycle rooms. Ground floor tenants have yet to be signed, but will include restaurants, fitness facilities, and other uses.

“Houze Living was created to offer a unique living experience with consistent amenities. (We also are) offering our tenants the option of choosing different design cultures and locations,” says Joe Barbat, principal of Barbat Holdings.

In addition, the company plans to renovate the Montgomery Houze in downtown Ann Arbor into 40 apartments. It is slated to open in 2018.
