The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham has opened its new luxury event space, The Clancy Room, which can be reserved for group dining, private meetings, and intimate gatherings.
The Clancy Room, formerly The Corner Bar, occupies 2,000 square feet and features an art deco style interior with marble floors, wood-paneled walls, glass chandeliers, and a flexible floor plan, which can cater up to 150 guests.
“There's a lot of private meetings held (in Birmingham), and there's really no where for (people) to go,” says Steven Kalczynski, managing director of The Townsend Hotel. “Here, you could be in an elegant environment that will be enjoyable. I think we're going to find it's going to be very popular for the 20, 30 people for these private dinners."
The newest addition to The Townsend Hotel, located at 100 Townsend St., is named after the late Daniel E. Clancy, an interior designer with Franklin-based Perlmutter Freiwald Inc., who conceived the concept for the new space as well as other areas of the hotel.
The culinary team behind the hotel’s other restaurant, Rugby Grille, offers a catering menu for The Clancy Room that includes items similar to a steakhouse as well as seafood, pasta, gluten free, and vegetarian dishes. Officials with the hotel say they will revamp the menu for the space in January.
Hours for The Clancy Room, which can operate until 2 a.m., vary on customer needs, and reservations are required to secure the space.
The new private dining space is part of The Townsend’s major renovation process, which began in 2014. All 150 rooms of the hotel have been remodeled, including extensive work on nine penthouse and specialty suites. Technology for the hotel had also been updated, with new 40-inch screen televisions, radios, telephones, and a wireless bedside controller.
Opened in 1988, The Townsend Hotel offers space for vacations, business conferences, and special events. All rooms and suites include Frette Egyptian cotton linen, Frette Italian-made duvet, and spa amenities. Other features of the hotel are the Townsend Ballroom, a business center, a 1,100-square-foot fitness facility, and the Townsend bakery.
