With the theme of uncovering new possibilities for the automotive industry, the SAE 2016 World Congress and Exhibition returns to Cobo Center in Detroit next month.
“SAE World Congress will give you the opportunity to access the untapped discoveries in the automotive industry,” says Yoshiaki Kato, president of the Aisin Technical Center of America in Northville Township, and a partner of the World Congress.
The event, to be held April 12-14, will address current challenges in the automotive industry and promote opportunities for the industry’s successful future. The SAE World Congress includes panel discussions and speaker sessions on topics such as design for advanced materials; electric and hybrid electric propulsion; manufacturing future vehicles; autonomous cars; and personal mobility.
Speakers include Shad Khan, owner of Royal Oak automotive supplier Flex-N-Gate; Kirk Steudle, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation; and Gary Silberg, a partner at the audit and tax firm KPMG, which has a large practice in Detroit, Walton L. Fehr, manager of systems engineering for the Intelligent Transportation System Joint Program Office at the U.S. Department of Transportation; among others.
The conference will also offer a career fair for automotive engineering professionals, with representatives from companies such as BorgWarner, General Motors Co., and the University of Michigan. The career fair will be held on April 12-13.
SAE International will hold a luncheon and two development sessions specifically designed for young engineers, with speakers including Felicia Turrentine Wasson, director of public affairs for The Coca-Cola Co., North America Group; Carla Bailo, assistant vice president of mobility research and business development at Ohio State University; and David Coe, director of technical strategy for automotive at Microsoft.
Last year, more than 11,000 people attended SAE, including automotive engineers, industry executives, academic leaders, government and military personnel, along with consultants. Tickets for SAE members cost $460 per day, while tickets for non-members cost $860 per day.
